Best for brunch

Christian
@theNomadiclifers
A favourite brunch stop for us, Christians is another restaurant that made us feel welcome. Serving the kids with cotton candy for dessert keeps us going back for more sugar highs. We do love the eggs Benedict and will take in our own GF bread from FOODCODE to keep it gluten free. The ceviche is one of Hubbies favourites but is not GF.

Coffeemania
@theNomadiclifers
If it is just a quick coffee or brekkie you are looking for, you cannot go wrong with Coffeemania. Our favourite branch on New Arbat Street is a regular weekend stop on our walks with the dog. For the coeliacs, save room for the pancotta. Who doesn’t love a little dessert with breakfast?

A personal favourite of mine and my choice for a Mum & son date. If you are hankering for a burger while in Moscow, this is the place to go. They make the best lettuce burger. Don’t forget to wear the gloves. Other favourites are the risotto, ceviche and the steak is exceptional!

@theNomadiclifers
With an Aussie Chef behind the food here, it only took one visit for this restaurant to become a family favourite for my Aussie brood. We highly recommend the duck dumplings, made with rice flour. There really is no better food on this planet just quietly. The tuna and salmon sushi are also exceptional but nothing has the kids eyes rolling back quite like the yoghurt dessert.

Meat&Fish
@theNomadiclifers
Our favourite restaurant in this chain is the one in AfiMall in the city. The staff here made us feel so welcome when we arrived and the restaurant became our weekly go to in the early days. We have tried most dishes here and it is all good but the carpaccio and the cold prawns are dishes we keep going back to. For kids the ice cream dessert is a must.

If you are a meat lover then this is the place to go. There are not many items we haven’t tried on this menu and again the meat sushi is a winner with the kids. The pomp and flare is as fun as the food is good and you really should try out the golden steak to get the most out of the preparations.

Local meat at its finest, managed by Russian cowboys! There is every cut imaginable here and the ribs are winners in this household. A great stop in if you are exploring Res Square and the surrounds.

Cihan Steak and Kebab
@theNomadiclifers
In a great location on New Arbat, this Turkish steak house worth the visit and an opportunity to people watch on the famous street below. Unfortunately a lot of the dishes here come with traditional Turkish bread but there is still plenty to choose from. We order the chicken wings to use in lieu of bread to test out all the magnificent dips. It is definitely one of those restaurants where the more people the better so you can add more dishes to the order.

Another good stop for the meat lovers. Meat & Coin age their own beef and also have a Turkish touch to their menu. In summer their outdoor area is the perfect spot for a late lunch or dinner where you can see the lights come on around you.

Matryoshka Restaurant
@theNomadiclifers
Don’t miss out on local dishes in this restaurant with a unique atmosphere. Perfect for a summer outdoor champagne brunch with a local twist. In the colder months, move indoors and try out some local dishes either upstairs or head down the spiral staircase into what feels like a very high end pantry.

It’s not all about the view but it is a treat to be able to see Victory Park and Luzhniki while exploring this menu. I use the word exploring because it is an adventure. International dishes but with a local input and they are all incredible. Take a risk and try something new. The scallops and the crème brûlée where firm favourites for us. We left rolling into the lift. The waitstaff are incredible here. They know their menu VERY well and are able to advise instantly regarding dietary requirements. We were impressed with the service.

Best pizza & gf cakes

Pinzeria by Bontempi
@theNomadiclifers
For the best gluten free pizza., this is the spot and even better … they deliver. One of the many things I love about Moscow is everything can be done online. When ordering, let them know if you cannot speak Russian and they will respond accordingly. Great service all the time! Another plus about eating out here is they also have gluten free desserts and cakes to order. We highly recommend the Gluten Free Cheesecake!

Best for dessert

O2 Lounge
@theNomadiclifers
The perfect stop for a dessert and coffee after a night at the Bolshoi. With magnificent city views, this restaurant on the rooftop of The Ritz is a great way to see Red Square lit up at night. Alternatively, if you are exploring Red Square by day, then finish off with a view from up top perspective. On a cold day/night, heaters and blankets are provided and if you are gluten free, no need to even look at the menu, just order the gluten free eclair with your hot beverage of choice.
