Check the weather before heading out!

Piazzale Michelangelo

I’m sure you’ve heard this is the best place to catch an amazing view of the city, but have you ever thought of bringing a picnic with you?

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of the best places to enjoy a smorgasbord picnic of cheeses, meats, and vino (or really whatever your heart desires) while watching the sunset over Florence. How romantic😉

It is a bit of a trek to get up there, but you can take the bus! Check the schedule here…

Ponte Santa Trinita

This bridge has the absolute best view of Ponte Vecchio! Clearly, this “picnic spot” is much more urban than Piazzale Michelangelo being on a bridge in the city center…but it is definitely beautiful! During high season, it’s best to check this one out earlier in the morning or later at night because it is quite popular among the tourists.

Giardino di Boboli

Giardino di Boboli is a jaw-dropping-ly beautiful park smack dab in the city center full of history. Not only is it a great picnic spot, but just a super interesting place to check out if you have time. It’s a great way to feel like you can “escape” the hustle ‘n bustle of the city without going far. Keep in mind you do have to pay a small entrance fee since this is a legitimate attraction (not just a public park). Boboli is considered a museum more than anything…please be respectful, honor all posted rules, and clean up after yourself.

Piazza de’ Pitti

Want to know a secret? During lockdown I would pack myself a lunch and go sit in Piazza de’ Pitti because it was the only way to get out of the house! This piazza is super wide so it gets a ton of sunlight all day. This makes it pretty toasty in summer, but absolutely perfect in spring and fall. As you walk through Piazza de’ Pitti you will lots of people sitting on the ground having lunch and drinks. It’s a fantastic picnic spot!
