Lake Havasu is one of my favorite places to go boating in the summertime. It's also a great place to visit during the cooler months as well. Regardless of when you choose to visit, here is the best of Havasu.
Hotels
We don't stay in hotels very often, but as far as Havasu goes these two are the only ones ai can recommend based off our experience.

Free Camping
Dispersed camping is not allowed within the city limits, however there are two great dispersed camping areas just outside of town. This is assuming it's not summertime. Then it is way too hot to camp without AC!

Boating
Sandy Beach at Rotary Park
This is one of my favorite places to beach the boat. It's a clean, sandy beach where you can easily take a dip and watch the boats come and go from the channel.
The Channel
It can be a crowded cluster F at times, but when it's not a holiday weekend it can be quite enjoyable to sit and watch the boat traffic and take in the views of Havasu.
The Sandbar
This is a fun ~30 minute boat ride to where all the boats will be on a nice day.
Three Dunes

Take a nice 12 mile boat ride south of the channel and pull into one of the coves. Enjoy the beach and relax in the water.
Outdoors (with no boat)
