Check out the must do's in Naxos, Greece!

Naxos Travel Guide

Naxos is a paradise in the Greek Islands with its ancient ruins, delicious food, craft cocktails, adorable Greek villages, epic hikes, and winding alleyways.

I spent time in Naxos recently and here are all my top picks for what you should do in Naxos with over 20 hours of research put into this guide.

Here is a complete guide to all the must do's in Naxos, Greece.

Where is Naxos?

Naxos is located about an hour from Santorini. It is the largest island in the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is less touristy than Santorini or Mykonos but is still a popular destination among tourists.

Here you will find gorgeous Greek ruins, beautiful beaches, wonderful island day trips, great local food, craft cocktails, and winding ally ways. It is the perfect Greek destination!

How should I get to Naxos?

The best way to get to Naxos is by a ferry. You can take a ferry from Santorini. Ferry Hopper is an app that you can book your ferries, track them, and have a ticket on the app. This is the easiest way to book your ferry to Naxos.

How long should I spend in Naxos?

Three days allowed plenty of time to explore Naxos while not feeling too rushed. If you have 5 days that would be a more relaxed trip giving you plenty of time to see everything while being able to relax and unwind.

Where should I stay?

I recommend staying in Chora Naxos which is the heart of Naxos Town. Here you will be close to the shops, restaurants, ancient ruins, and more.

How will I get around?

If you are staying in Naxos you can easily walk around the main area of town without a car. I would still recommend getting a car so you can easily take day trips and have flexibility to go anywhere you want. The cars in Naxos are very affordable and you will find tons of car rental places. You can also take taxis or buses to get to where you want to go.

What should I do in Naxos?

There is plenty to do in Naxos. The main area of Naxos is going to be Naxos Town but there is tons to explore outside of Naxos Town as well.

Temple of Apollo - Portara
@ashawaytravel
The Temple of Apollo Portara is a MUST in Naxos, this is such a gem. It is a huge marble doorway that on either side frames epic views of either Naxos Town or the ocean views. Try to visit the Portara at sunset and the temple will turn a golden glow. No matter when you go the temple is just beautiful and the pathway up is gorgeous all the way up.

Naxos had GREAT cocktails! Be prepared to be impressed. They have great tiki drinks, a variety of cocktail drinks and kitron cocktails. Kitron is made locally and is a spirit Naxos is known for. It has a very unique taste. Almost gin like with a funky after taste, not bad but unique for sure.
