B-side Foods
@cam
If you really miss the feel of anywhere USA public school chairs circa 1998 🪑 but don't miss the food and the harsh vibes of fluorescent lighting and gloss-painted white cinder blocks check out B-Side foods for breakast and lunch-ish things. The toasts are toasty, the egg sammy is my go-to and the rice bowl is a delicious and fermented way to start your day ☀️🍲

Analog Coffee
@cam
Post-brekky be sure to pop in next door for a coffee and enjoy a weekend paper if you want to take things slow. The latest newspaper and periodical selections are out and available if you get there early 📰. Most importantly, don't forget to check out the big table of local comics out front - these diy prints and zines say more about the city and the amazing humans in it than I ever could.

Volunteer Park Conservatory
@cam
The lush gem of Volunteer Park is the cozy conservatory, offering a survey of specimens from around the world. Head to the Asian Art Museum next door if you’re not already all arted out or bring a blanket and plan to stay anytime from late afternoon to the early evening if the weather is clear. There are often local festivals and events in this locale come summer, be sure to check The Stranger (local periodical) for upcoming events. If you don’t mind some stairs, check out the water tower for the full story on the park’s historical context. Fun fact: the sculpture in front of the Asian Art Museum was the inspiration for the Soundgarden song Black Hole Sun.

Raygun Lounge
@cam
Grab a table, rent games or play pinball at this Capitol Hill barcade. Inviting, inclusive and lively from early afternoon through later evening there’s no better place on the hill to get together for a boardgame and a beer (or coffee!) with a few buds. Check their calendar for special events or browse the shop if you’d rather play at home. Head up the street to Linda’s for a post-game dive bar and PBR vibe.

Capitol Hill Lightrail Station
@cam
Head up the street a few blocks to the Capitol Hill Lightrail Station to grab a ride down to Westlake Station (If you’re aiming to stop by the Seattle Art Museum) or on to Pioneer Square (If you’d like to skip the museum). If the weather is clear and you’re up for a walk you can head down Broadway a few more blocks and take either Pike or Pine down the hill into downtown. There are lots of shops along either thoroughfare so feel free to take your time.

Seattle Art Museum
@cam
One of my favorite things to do in the city when I first moved here is still one of my favorite things to do – check out the Seattle Art Museum with your own soundtrack and take your time, whatever that amount of time is for you. The African Collection is a personal favorite of mine, but be sure to check the calendar for current or upcoming shows or exhibitions.

The London Plane
@cam
After the museum it’s a 15 minute walk down 1st Ave to Pioneer Square. Head to The London Plane for a drink or a bite or both, they have a great selection of toasts, soups, veggies and pastries that change seasonally. Everything’s great and the cocktails (especially the Bloody Mary) are worth exploring. Be sure to browse the shop while you wait for a table and remember to pick up a bottle of wine or some flowers on your way out if you have plans with a special someone later as they have great selections of both.

Non-Breaking Space Gallery
@cam
If you’re interested, walk a few more blocks to the Non-Breaking Space — a non-profit gallery put forth by local design studio Civilization. Though the space is small, their selection of important and critical graphic design work and artists is meticulous and timely, ranging from installations by Na Kim to the recent As, Not For exhibit curated by Jerome Harris. Be sure to stop by Fruit Super next door for a thoughtfully curated shop of beautiful everyday objects that surprise and delight.

@cam
Whenever you’re ready to hike back up to Capitol Hill, head to Pioneer Square Lightrail Station to take the train. Once you’re back on the hill, head to Cal Anderson or Volunteer Park if the sun is out to catch some rays, people watch and relax. If the weather is less than ideal, head back to your stay, rest your feet and maybe even take that nap you deserve. 💤 🪁

Bar Vacilando
@cam
When you’re ready to dip into the evening and looking to start with a small aperitivo check out Bar Vacilando. Upscale bohemian decor and a bright courtyard contribute to a breezy old world atmosphere. On the quieter side, head to Vacilando when you’re interested in having an easy-going conversation and exploring the drink menu with a friend. I'm partial to the Mezcal cocktails and the food menu is both snacky and substantial. Choose to share a few plates for a tasty and eclectic meal.

Rione XIII
@cam
Rione is Ethan Stowell’s homage to the cobbled and bustling Trastavere district of Rome. Order a glass of wine and explore a straightforward menu including street pizzas, handmade pastas and amazing bruschettas executed with the occasional flourish. Great for a date night, Rione’s warm interior, bustling kitchen and open windows bring a little of the outside in to faithfully recreate the communal space of a Trastavere street café. Slightly more formal than Bar Vacilando, expect to commit to a full dinner and plan to arrive later in the evening. If the weather’s warm make a reservation near the windows a priority and if you have to pick only one pasta I’m partial to the carbonara (get the egg).

Nacho Borracho
@cam
If Bar Vacilando and Rione XIII feel a bit too upscale for your evening, check out this divey and taco-laden heartthrob of a cantina. Nacho Borracho is a favorite for the kids on Capitol Hill and operates a taco window at the back with a menu that includes Tatchos, Tacos & Burritos. The drinks at the bar vary from just-about-any-flavor-you-like margaritas (slushy or on the rocks) to a number of local and Mexican cervezas. The environment is loud, irreverent and fun — grab a booth with friends for conversation or sit at the bar to meet a neighbor.

Neumos
@cam
High on Fire, Cloud Nothings, Angel Olsen, Hieroglyphics, Freddie Gibbs, Wye Oak — all have played at Neumos. If you’re looking for a a great show in Capitol Hill, Neumos is a great place to start. They also run more than a few themed dance nights if you're feeling danc-ey. If you don’t see anything you like on their calendar check next door at their sister venue Barboza or up the street at Chop Suey (with two stages). No pro tips here, just check the calendar and don’t get too upset at the tall guy standing in front of you just for being tall, that tall guy could be me! ❤️
