Hostels can be a great way to meet other travelers, stay in popular locations, and travel affordably. Here's a running list of hostels that I've stayed at and a summary of my experience with them. Any questions? Shoot me a message on Instagram or TikTok!
This was the first hostel I've ever stayed at. It's in my home state, and I had no idea we had such a thing. I absolutely love that it used to be a firehouse and this started my desire to stay in unique places on my trips.
This place was definitely unique, but it was a little sketchy. The people staying there seemed like they had been there for a while. I also got my credit card information stolen while I was there, but I will say I cannot confirm that it was anyone at the hostel that did that. Merely a coincidence.
This place was very nice. 420 friendly backyard. Careful not to get your hair caught on fire from the table with a fire pit on it like I did...Don't worry, it wasn't too bad. Haha.
There is a short walk that you must take to get to the main attractions. During that walk, it's safe but not much to see.
They offered to store my bags for me when I arrived. The hostel was clean. You have to use your key card to turn on the electricity in your room.
I really liked the location of this hostel because it was close to the Roma Termini. It was affordable and clean. The other guests were nice. However, be careful if you decide to go to the bar that is associated with the hostel. One of the girls I was sharing a dorm with got drugged at that bar. Now, you should always be careful when traveling, but I learned that this wasn't an uncommon occurrence at this bar. I only recommend this as a cheap and clean place to stay.
The Anda Venice Hostel is a nice hostel and close to the train station, but it's on the mainland of Venice. All the attractions and sightseeing is on the island. Given that it was my first time there, I didn't realize what I was doing. It turned out fine, but I needed to consider the train/bus schedules so that I could make it to the island and back on time.
This was my mom's first hostel experience so I made sure it was a good place. They offered supper soup every night and the breakfast was great. You can make your own waffles.

I am a solo female traveler who LOVES to try new things. To me, life is a compilation of experiments with a goal towards self-discovery. I value personal growth and adventure through travel and hope to service others in their own journey.
Being up for experimenting and trying new things wasn't always the case. I was a perfectionist who did not want to mess up in fear of rejection and damaging my self-worth. It took a lot of self-love and patience to build the confidence that I have today. I worked my way up from a completely guided tour to living abroad alone in a van. See my timeline below. If I can do it, you can do it and I'm here to help support you through that.
Travel History:
2005 - First international trip to Vietnam (with the family)
2013 - South America for the first time for a study abroad trip in Bolivia
2017 - Guided solo trip (2 months in Vietnam)
2020 - Couples trip to Canada (ended early because of COVID 😢)
2022 - Improvised solo trips to Italy and Vietnam
2023 - Moved abroad alone to New Zealand...and started living in a campervan full-time
Cheers,
Mai
