Start the day off with coffee and a pastry (or the delicious breads with frosting!) in the chic Jordaan neighborhood.

Next, head to a bike tour around Amsterdam. My favorite way to get to know a city and meet new people. We Bike Amsterdam has comfortable bikes and friendly guides filled with fun facts. Expand your knowledge of all things Dutch history (eg, trading companies!) that our middle school history teachers failed to share with us. Tours are approximately 3 hours.

Afternoon/Evening
Post-working up an appetite, head to Cora for the “best sandwiches of your life” - per my friend who absolutely loved the city.

After, walk north through the Jordaan district (clearly this was my favorite!), weaving up and down the quaint streets that boast tons of amazing shops and cafes.

On your way, you’ll pass by the Anne Frank House. Be sure to book well in advance - tickets go quickly and they don’t sell at the door! Also, the House music museum takes Google ad space from Anne Frank, so make sure you’re booking tickets for the right place.

For dinner, head to The Duchess - one of my favorite restaurants in Europe, especially for a vegetarian like myself. For solo travel, this restaurant has bar seats you can reserve (a classy, spacious bar!)

A trip to Amsterdam isn’t complete without a walk through the Red Light District. I begrudgingly did this (given I was alone) and am so happy I did. Amsterdam is lit up beautifully at night and breathtaking. Plus, I’ve never seen anything like this area.

Honorable Mentions!
