What people say

" Known as both Heptapyrgion and Yedi Kule, the Monument Heptapyrgion is a historic fortress located on the acropolis of Thessaloniki in Ano Poli. Likely named after Constantinople's Yedikule Fortress, it served as a key stronghold in the city's acropolis and housed the Ottoman garrison commander until the late 19th century. Transforming into a prison until its closure in 1989, ongoing restoration and archaeological efforts began in the 1970s. Dominating the Thessaloniki skyline for over 1,000 years, this fortress, with its ten towers, stands as a testament to both Byzantine and Ottoman eras, embodying the city's rich historical tapestry."
"This Byzantine and Ottoman-era fortress is situated on the acropolis of Thessaloniki in Ano Poli, the Old town. You will have to walk up a few hilly streets to get there - enjoy the journey by exploring Ano Poli as you go - the streets are gorgeous and there are nice local cafes and restaurants too. Note that as of June 2023 there was a construction going on at the site so many areas are closed. Consider whether it is worth the cost of the ticket (6 euros) or whether you just want to see the impressive walls and enjoy the views of the city and the Aegean Sea. Reviews from people who have purchased the ticket are quite mixed."
