Located just West of the Southern Canadian Rockies, the Kootenays have charming small towns, jaw-dropping landscapes, friendly people, a relaxed energy and more trails than one could possible explore in a lifetime. As a local who lives here, and has travelled throughout the East and West Kootenays, there are so many incredible places/things/spots/shops in this region that deserve the same hype as their Alberta mountain town neighbours. The Kootenay's are just as cool (but quieter and more affordable)! Everywhere listed in the guide is a place I have personally been, or a place that I have on my list to visit as quickly as possible (but that I know other locals visit and love). * All the trails, activities and recreation recommendations are beginner/family friendly, no multi-day or difficult hikes here.
