What people say

"The building of the Royal Parish of Lady Santa Ana, in Gothic-Mudejar style, was built by order of King Alfonso X the Wise in the well-known Triana district. Construction began in 1266 by Castilian master stonemasons and Muslim builders. It is the first Christian temple built from scratch in Seville after it was conquered in 1248. Nobles, soldiers, merchants, sailors and wealthy men from the district built chapels in the original outline of the temple from the end of the 15th century. They founded chaplaincies and left their mark along with those of great sculptors, painters, architects, goldsmiths and ceramicists who executed the magnificent works that we can admire today as part of the building or its artistic heritage. The main altarpiece, the work of Nufro Ortega and Nicolás Jurate, contains 15 panels by Pedro de Campaña, the main exponent of mannerism in his time. The altarpiece was fully restored by the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage between 2008 and 2010. The earthquake of 1755 caused great damage to the temple, so Pedro de Silva, the archbishop's master builder, partially rebuilt it and gave it a baroque appearance that still remains on the outside. In the interior, a new intervention was carried out between 1970 and 1972, under the direction of the architect Rafael Manzano to bring out the brick and stone, thus recovering its original medieval appearance. Declared a monument of cultural interest since 1931."
