"The Universitate or Architecture Fountain - the name given to it by people - is one of the most popular meeting places among the people of Bucharest. The fountain is the most accessible landmark for students from the Faculty of Geography of the University of Bucharest - it is located right next to the entrance to the faculty. Many of you may have wondered what her true identity is. It is not named after any personality, as you might expect, but, more or less officially, it is called the Danube Fountain. This Bucharest landmark, according to rezistenta.net, appeared after the 1977 earthquake that destroyed the Dunărea I block (hence the name of the fountain) located on the northern side of the public space where the fountain is now located. This moment marked the beginning of the systematization of the area. The rebuilt block, Dunărea II, was completely different from the first. Enei's Church and all the buildings on the street with the same name were demolished at the request of Nicolae Ceaușescu, thus redefining the whole space, the new fountain completing the vision of the Golden Age. The symbolism of the fountain in the collective memory was obtained during the Revolution of 1989 and in 1990 during the mining - according to rezistenta.net, "those who lived those times on the spot say that human blood flowed in the fountain". The fountain at the University is a kind of place of waiting. People are waiting there – waiting for someone, waiting to enter somewhere, waiting for something to finish or start. In addition to this functionality, the fountain is increasingly used in recent years as a place of protest."
