"It is true, most of the religious buildings in Nice belong to the Catholic faith. On the other hand, St. Nicholas Russian Cathedral may be the most impressive place of Orthodox worship – but it is not the only one. Two other important Orthodox churches are the Church of Saint Nicholas and Saint Alexandra, as well as the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Spyridon.
This was built in 1950 and dedicated in 1957. It was intended for the Greek community which had begun to develop in Nice and the surrounding area in the 1930s. The current Saint-Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church is the impeccable example of pure decorative Byzantine art in Nice. The icon collection includes painted copies of some renowned ancient Byzantine models. The stained glass windows that line certain sections of the church and the wall paintings were created in the early 1990s, fulfilling the efforts of the Hellenic community of the French Riviera to materialize the ideal of an exemplary Byzantine place of worship."
