Nally Preseault
"Are you ready to taste some wine in Goriška Brda (the Gorizia Hills) in Western Slovenia along the Italian border? Of course you are. In the hilltop village of Kozana, you'll find Jakončič Winery, which first planted grapes in the mid-19th century. The winery looks intimidating at first. Don't let the closed gate fool you. Friendly people, generous spreads, and easy-to-drink wines await you inside.
A classic tasting includes five wines (a sparkling, two whites, an orange, and a red), snacks (bread, meat, olives, and fresh fruit), and a bit of Slovenian history. After the tasting, you can take a glass of your favorite outside to enjoy the view (rolling hills, cypress trees, endless vines). Then a few bottles of Rebula to go, perhaps?
Note: The winery is open on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Reservations aren't necessary, though they ensure you'll have a space during busy periods."
