What people say

"The Palace of Holyroodhouse, situated at the end of Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. With a history dating back to the 12th century, the palace has served as a royal residence, a seat of power, and a site of significant historical events. Culturally, the Palace of Holyroodhouse holds immense importance as a symbol of Scotland's royal heritage and its enduring connection to the British monarchy. The palace's architecture, ranging from medieval to baroque styles, reflects its rich history and the influence of successive generations of monarchs. Visitors to the palace can explore its magnificent state apartments, including the Royal Dining Room, the Throne Room, and the Great Gallery, adorned with exquisite tapestries, paintings, and furnishings. Beyond its architectural splendor, the Palace of Holyroodhouse is steeped in history, having witnessed numerous royal ceremonies, celebrations, and tragedies over the centuries. It is perhaps best known as the setting for the turbulent events surrounding the murder of David Rizzio, private secretary to Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1566. Today, the palace welcomes visitors from around the world to explore its opulent interiors, stroll through its picturesque gardens, and learn about its fascinating royal history. As such, it remains a cherished landmark and a testament to Scotland's enduring monarchy."
"This is the official residence of the British Monarchy in Scotland. If you are not planning to visit inside, from my experience, it was difficult to get a nice view of the Palace. Unlike Buckingham Palace which you can appreciate from the street, Holyrood Palace was not easy to view without paying for entry. "
"Ticket are slightly cheaper if you book in advance so definitely do that! An adult ticket cost £18 and a young person’s ticket (18-24) costs only £11.50! This Palace stands at the opposite end of the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle and is definitely worth visit if you’re interested in Royal history. "
