It is suitable for both winter and summer visitors. A curated list of recommendations like this unlike an itinerary offers flexibility and allows travelers to choose based on their available time. However, the way I listed the activities by day allows for a manageable time-based plan. Most visitors stop in Athens for a day or two, look at the Acropolis, and then fly off to Santorini. When people rush through Athens just to get to the islands, they miss out on a beautiful city full of history, incredible food, and amazing sights. I studied in Athens for a semester and I loved being a part of the daily life and culture. From chatting with the friendly people who worked at my local coffee shop to using the Acropolis as a directional guide, Athens quickly felt like home. I miss Athens constantly and just really loved the time I spent there. There’s truly something for everyone. If you are a Greek mythology or philosophy nerd, this is the motherland. If you love food, get ready to gorge yourself on delicious souvlaki and feta cheese. Or, if you just appreciate beautiful sights and fun nightlife, there’s something for you too. Based on my time in Athens, here are my recommendations for what to do, where to eat, day trips, and nightlife. If you’re just visiting, opt to do more than the average tourist and really get to know the city of Athens. It’s more than a layover.

This is a guide for Athens and Alimos Greece. If you are not familiar with Alimos (I wasn't either), it is a seaside town on the coast and is very close to Athens. It makes for a great city break from the heat of Athens. If you are heading to the Greek Islands for the summer it's very likely you'll pass through Athens. There is a wealth of things to do here. We've been a few times now and I still have things on my list that I'd like to see and do in future trips. This guide will cover all of the things that I have personally done, seen, and eaten in Athens. *Including a mini street food our that we personally created and did! It will also cover things I have researched that sound amazing and that I wish to do on future trips. Why Athens? Personally I find Athens to be an incredible city. Not everyone wants to spend time in Athens, but we really enjoyed Athens and found it had a lot to offer. There are lots of great things to do and see here and so much history. We have visited twice so this guide for Athens will include quite a bit. You can pick and choose what you would find most enjoyable for a day or two here at the beginning and possibly also the end of your trip. I am going to divide this Athens portion into 2 sections. The first will be for more of the heart of Athens and first timers or people who love all of the main and major things in the city. We also created our own mini street food tour here and that is included as well.   The second section is with a base in Alimos. This is likely for people who have already been to Athens and have seen all of the history and main sites. Or for people who just don't care and would rather beach and chill during their day or two in Athens. 

Athens is a remarkable city humming with history, culture and experiences. You can easily spend multiple days in this wonderful city exploring and viewing all it has to offer. Athens is also a great starting and ending spot for many of the Cycladic Islands throughout the Aegean sea and you can cover a lot of the city in a short layover. So, if your travel plans only allow a short time in this historic destination, we recommend at least a two-night layover. Enjoy!

This is a guide to an Island hopping itinerary of: Athens-Andros-Syros-Naxos-Paros This guide will cover how to island hop through 4 incredible Greek Islands. It will cover things to do, places to eat, how to get around, and where to stay in each place. I have personally been to every single place included in this guide (except one! you'll see). These islands are a bit more off the beaten path than the usual tourist trail of Mykonos and Santorini. They are WELL worth visiting and should be on every travelers list!
