Ultimate Copenhagen Guide: Everything you need to know when going to Copenhagen
Welcome to my city!
I created the ultimate guide with more than 200 selected things to do, see and taste as a result of more than 21 years living in this city.
When people think of Denmark, they often picture the statue of the little mermaid, Tivoli amusement park and lots of bikes. And while Copenhagen is all of that, there’s also much more to the city.
Included are the best places to see between:
- Castles
- Churches
- Parks
- Hidden gems
- Museums & Galleries
- Panoramic points
- Best restaurants, unique cafes, street food, brunch
- Suggested itineraries
& more
Here you'll also find general information of the city, how to get around, what not to do and frequently asked questions, as well as suggested itineraries.
Do you have any question? Send me a DM on Instagram @worldofsofiab or an email to world.of.sofiab@gmail.com
Happy exploring!
*** Disclosure:
For attractions, I provide GetYourGuide and Booking.com links where possible. I myself love the vendors as you can keep all your tickets/stays in one place (even better with the Copenhagen card), you also get instant confirmation and can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your planned activity/stay - this is a major benefit in a city like Copenhagen where the weather can dictate your itinerary.
Using the links provided also help me as a small business, as I make a small commission with no additional charge to you!

As a proud same-sex couple, we make a point of seeking out LGBTQ+ sites and establishments as part of our travels. We know that finding such places can sometimes be hard so we wanted to make this guide to ensure that you’d have a gay (as in happy, but also as in gay) day in the Big Apple. We know there’s places on here even New York City queers don’t readily know about.
If you’re also a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you know that we often have to seek out our own history rather than count on it being taught to us. This guide isn’t limited to just sightseeing and eating or drinking – it’s also a LGBTQ+ history walking tour. If you’re an LGBTQ+ individual or ally living or visiting the Greenwich Village area of NYC, this is a great way to start patronizing LGBTQ+ owned businesses and learn from the city’s history. We wish we had something like this to follow years ago!
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
🏳️🌈 4 Historical Sites 🏳️⚧️
🌈 3 Memorials
📙 4 Art/ Resources / Shopping
🤤 3 LGBTQ+ Owned Food Spots
🍸 6 LGBTQ+ bars and clubs
🗺️ An interactive map of all locations
This guide also contains a living map, so your unlocked guide will be updated as we continue to add more locations!

Beat the Tipping Point: Plan a Trip to Luang Prabang NOW (with these expert tips)
This guide includes where to eat and drink, where to stay, what to do, and where to work remotely in Luang Prabang, Laos — a sublime little city on the confluence of the mighty Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. Luang Prabang is a must-visit in your explorations of Southeast Asia. Orange robe-clad monks stroll the streets lined with historic French architecture. Welcome smiles, delicious cuisine, and ancient wats all await you at this UNESCO world heritage destination. With thoughtful new investment from savvy local business owners and French and Swiss expats who were stuck here (and fell in love) during Covid, the town is at a perfect inflection point of old and new. You can sit down to a bowl of soup on the sidewalk, dine at a 5-star hotel, and sip an IPA at a trendy cafe — all within a few blocks of each other. But hurry, Luang Prabang is not too far from the visitor tipping point.

Almost everything here is locally owned. Many are single-artist shops, working and selling in the same space. Others are small businesses that curate beautiful things from around the area or around the world.
A few bigger companies are included here, but that’s because I truly love their products!
This list focuses on the main island of Venice. If you're looking for my favorite glass shops in Murano or lace in Burano, check my profile for those guides separately!
In this guide, you'll get
- 11 shops in Venice ranging from tiny artisans to the preeminent creators in their field.
- some food-related, some textiles, some for kiddos
- an interactive map to help navigate you to each spot

Exploring the Magical Benevento Countryside of Campania, Italy
When I first arrived in Guardia, Luigi Orso would pass me in his pickup truck as I was walking around, minding my own business, he'd motion for me to hop in and off we'd go to visit his friends in the countryside.
I never knew where we were headed but it was always an adventure. On one such occasion he drove me to the Santa Lucia church in Sassinoro, a magical, sacred place along the Archangel Michael's lei line.
I went back often seeking the serenity of nature and the Divine. I've since discovered other magical sites in the area which I put together in this guide.
A portion of the proceeds and all tips from this guide will be donated to the Associazione "La Wardia Bbella"
This guide offers an itinerary for a day or weekend trip, to discover hidden gems off the beaten path in the "mystical' Benevento countryside in Campania, Italy. This land, that predates Rome, is rich in tradition and legends of Witches. It also the birthplace of the 'Slow Food Movement'.
Take this lovely excursion from Guardia Sanframondi to the Santa Lucia church built into a mystical cave in Sassinoro and on to the Ruins of Sepino without the crowds of Pompei. Stop along the way to take in the natural scenery and charming villages where you can taste local delicacies.
"Alecia put together this lovely one-day drive through Campania for me and friends visiting from the States. It was absolutely perfect and full of hidden treasures and discoveries. Thanks so much Alecia for this wonderful itinerary, and your excellent recommendations. I simply can't imagine a more wonderful day’s drive of discovery, adventure and fun!"

Sometimes, the best travel experiences are the ones you don’t plan for. I recently found myself in Sarajevo, a city I hadn’t originally intended to visit, and I was completely enchanted by its charm. Sarajevo isn’t just a city; it’s a living history book, brimming with tales of triumph and turmoil. This crossroads of civilizations has seen it all, from Ottoman grandeur to 20th-century struggles. You can’t walk its streets without feeling the weight of its past.
• The 1914 Assassination: Sarajevo made headlines worldwide when Gavrilo Princip’s fateful shot at Archduke Franz Ferdinand set off World War I. It’s a defining moment etched into the city’s story.
• Ottoman Legacy: Stroll through Sarajevo and you’ll see the influence of the Ottomans in its mosques, old bazaars, and unique blend of cultures. It’s a city that wears its history on its sleeve.
• The 1990s Siege: The city’s scars from the Bosnian War are still visible, but so is its spirit of recovery. The resilience and hope in Sarajevo’s ongoing rebuild reflect its unbreakable character. Sarajevo is buzzing with excitement for its future.
The city is embracing growth and modernization while retaining its warm, welcoming spirit. With new businesses, cultural events, and vibrant community life, Sarajevo is evolving into a must-visit destination. The local people are incredibly friendly, making every visitor feel at home. As Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to develop, Sarajevo stands as a beacon of optimism and charm, promising an enriching experience for everyone who comes to explore.

From independent design shops to creative concept stores, Cologne has a thriving boutique culture ranging from approachable to high-end shops selling all sorts of interesting products. And don't forget about the amazing secondhand and vintage shopping here!
One of the things that first stood out to me about Cologne was the vibrancy of local business. I noticed independently owned shops around the city, and significantly less big box retailers than I was used to coming from the US. The abundance of small retail is one of my favorite things about life in Cologne.
