Nestled on the southern coast of Portugal, Lagos is a town steeped in rich history whose roots can be traced back to the Roman era.
While some say it flourished as a bustling trade center during the Age of Discovery, much of its success came from involvement in the slave trade. Walking through the Old Town, you can see castles, markets and fortifications and get a feel of what the city was like 500 years ago.
Beyond its historical significance, Lagos is renowned for its dramatic cliffs and clear turquoise waters in places like Ponta da Piedade and Batata beach.
