Walk in the footsteps of Roman gladiators at the ancient Arena of Verona.

Verona Arena
@daniellecohen
The arena was first constructed in 30AD outside of the city walls and originally had a capacity for 30,000 guests. It is Italy’s third-largest Roman Amphitheater and in ancient times would have hosted all kinds of spectacles including circuses and savage gladiator battles. Now, it hosts a yearly summer opera festival as well as occasional famous touring artists, such as Pink Floyd, Bjork and Radiohead.

Dream about the romance of Romeo and Juliet

Juliet’s House
@daniellecohen
A visit to Verona is not complete without seeing "la casa di Giulietta" or Juliet's house (from Romeo and Juliet). You can admire the balcony from below, take a photo with the bronze statue of Juliet (you'll notice a huge crowd of people lining up to take a photo, holding her left breast, as there is a legend that says touching her left breast will bring luck in love), or pay a ticket and head inside the house turned museum.

Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore
@daniellecohen
One of the most beautiful and best-preserved Romanesque Cathedrals in Italy, The Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore should definitely be on the list of things to do in Verona. One of the most fascinating architectural features of the church’s interior is its arched wooden ceiling which dates back to the 14th century. It is popularly believed that the crypt of San Zeno was the setting for Romeo and Juliet’s wedding in Shakespeare’s famous play.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ciao! My name is Danielle and I'm a Californian from San Diego, who's been living full time in Florence, Italy since 2020. I studied in Florence in 2016 and absolutely fell in love with the food, culture, and history, and made it my mission to move back. I moved right before the pandemic, and staying here through all the lockdowns and pandemic life really helped me discover slow travel and find all of Italy's beauty, including lesser known gems, and off the beaten path travel spots. During my three years in Florence, I have wrote for publications like The Florentine, done freelance marketing with restaurants and a travel agency, giving me high insight into the best destinations, foodie spots, and more. I am here to help you make the most of your vacation in Italy with curated itineraries for every type of traveler and digital maps to help you enjoy THE BEST food each region has to offer. Let me do the work so you can just relax and enjoy, without any stress! I've had a very unique experience living in Italy the last 4 years, as I made my official move right before the pandemic, after visiting for years. Because of this I learned to travel locally and deeply throughout the numerous incredible destinations in Italy and for that I cater my travel services to finding the most local and mindful experiences, keeping true to discovering and appreciating Italy's culture.
