"🇮🇸 Gullfoss is one of the Golden Circle's big three destinations and the most visited waterfall in Iceland. 📍LOCATION: Gullfoss is 35 minutes from Laugarvatn Geothermal Bakery. 👉 If you skip the geothermal bakery, it's a 50-minute drive from the Hrafnagjá Observation Deck. NOTE: This itinerary takes you past Geysir, but don't worry—you'll visit on the way back! 💦 Keep your eyes open, as you may see it erupt as you drive past. 🚗 PARKING: There’s a large, free parking lot at Gullfoss. 👉 Follow the road signs to the upper parking lot. MUST-SEES: 👉 Gullfoss Visitor'Visitor: Great spot to use the restrooms or grab something to eat at their cafe. 🎁 There is also an excellent gift shop if you want to indulge in a little retail therapy. 💦 Gullfoss is a unique and powerful 3-step waterfall. 💦 Gullfoss means Golden Waterfall, and if the legend is true... there's Viking gold at the bottom. 👀 Three Main Viewing Points: 👉 Upper Viewing Deck: 5-minute walk down from the visitor centre. 👉 Hike to Waterfall: 30-minute round-trip. The path gets you shockingly close... you'll get wet! 👉 Lower Viewing Deck: Walk down another set of stairs to my favourite viewing spot! 📸 PHOTOGRAPHY NOTES: 💦 Visit Gullfoss in the afternoon while the sunlight shines on the waterfalls. 🌈 My favourite photo spot is the lower observation point. This is the best spot to catch a rainbow. ⏰ VISITOR CENTRE HOURS: 9 am - 8:00 pm WATERFALL: Always open for viewing! 💰 COST: Free!"

The sheer power and beauty of Gullfoss attracts visitors from all over the world, and it is considered one of Iceland's most popular tourist destinations. In addition to its natural beauty, the waterfall also holds cultural significance, as it was once the site of a proposed hydroelectric power plant that was ultimately blocked by Iceland's first environmentalist, Sigríður Tómasdóttir."
