What people say

"The original hot dogs from Cervejaria Gazela are a gastronomic reference in the city of Porto. Customers wait their turn to try this speciality in the small space with a half-moon counter on Travessa de Cimo de Vila, which has maintained its original design. The Gazela brewery/restaurant opened to the public in 1962. The current owner of the establishment worked at the restaurant from 1970 onwards. The famous Gazela Hot Dogs have always been known by the citizens of Porto. The small space next to Teatro S. João became a popular spot for artists and its profile in the country grew. It was mentioned in numerous gastronomic itineraries and publications, including in Porto Elected European Destination 2014. They received the 2015 Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence and in 2019 were included in the list of finalists for “The World Restaurant Awards”, in the “House Special” category. The space gained greater notoriety with the visit of Anthony Bourdain, who dined there and recorded part of the episode of the series “Parts Unknown”, in 2017, dedicated to Portugal."
"Among the long list of famous sandwiches in Porto, you will find cachorrinhos. A pretty basic concept with toasted bread, sausage, cheese, and a touch of spice, cachorrinhos are perfect to snack on with a cold beer. Cervejaria Gazela is a not about the ambience but about the food. Go here to order several rounds of cachorrinos and other famous Porto sandwiches such as the "prego." Funny story - We meant to order the famous prego sandwich but ordered "prego em prato." Turns out "em prato" is Portugese for "on plate" so we got meat on a plate with friend instead of the sandwich but still yummy! "

"If Anthony Bourdain says you have to eat here, then you have to. Right? A beloved spot for hotdogs since 1962, this place is a must for a quick, cheap but delicious bite. There are 2 locations very close to each other, but I am partial to the smaller cervejaria. Spots at the counter are limited but the line moves fast. Enjoy a cachorrinho, served on a crispy baguette with sausage and cheese. It is then topped with spicy oil and sliced into small pieces. The fries are hot and the beer is cold. Don't miss this spot while out & about in Porto!"
