"The museum also displays some tools and various models of the Cathedral's facade and its dome. The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo is located inside an ancient palace, located behind the Cathedral's dome. Artists of the caliber of Donatello and Brunelleschi worked in the palace to build the buildings in the Piazza del Duomo. The Opera del Duomo is where Michelangelo sculpted his famous David.
In order not to be long-winded, we will mention here only three of the most famous works from the vast collection of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo:
- Pietà Bandini (Michelangelo): Michelangelo created it to decorate his tombstone in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The artist later decided to sell the sculpture, as he wanted to be buried in Florence in the future.
- Maria Maddalena (Donatello): Made in the last stage of his life, Donatello portrays Maria Maddalena with extremely original features for the time, that is, elderly and suffering.
- The Gates of Paradise (Lorenzo Ghiberti): Lorenzo Ghiberti took 27 years to create the panels of the northern door of the Baptistery. The name of this work was given by Michelangelo, truly impressed by Ghiberti's work."

"The museum is dedicated to the art and history of Florence's cathedral complex, including the Florence Cathedral (Duomo), Giotto's Bell Tower, and the Baptistery of St. John. It houses a rich collection of sculptures, artworks, and artifacts from these iconic buildings! Some of the best exhibits include a collection of Michelangelo's Pietas & a room dedicated to Brunelleschi's dome which houses his death mask! "

"Located near the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, this museum houses Michelangelo's poignant “Pietà” and Ghiberti’s intricate “Gates of Paradise," whose gold panels detail biblical scenes. It also includes the tombs of luminaries like Galileo and Machiavelli. "
