Hotels for a close-to-SF Weekender
Recs for friends & couples hoping to get away soon. Some of these are definitely on the spendier side, but would all make for a really lovely special occasion.

Beach House Hotel

Sort of classic, older-feeling rooms, but walking distance to Sam's and Princeton Jetty and beautiful water views.

The Sanctuary Beach Resort

Beach front, spacious suite-like rooms. Nothing crazy fancy. The on-site restaurant was quite good last time I was there, but that was pre-pandemic.

Great beachside spot to stay! The rooms are a little dated, but the views are what you're there for. The hotel bar is sorta fun, too.

Cambria Beach Lodge
@thatch
Located right across the street from Moonstone Beach on Californiaâs Central Coast, this adorable boutique hotel is the perfect place for a coastal weekend getaway.
All of the rooms have a beach-inspired design to create the perfect vacation vibe for your stay.
Cambria is one of the last âuntouchedâ California coast beach towns, a place for whale watching, wine tasting, sunset watching, and relaxing to the sound of the waves.
This is co-founder West Askew's favorite spot to stay in Cambria!

Just a silly fancy meal and spendy inn but itâs truly amazing. If you have an anniversary or something worth a crazy splurge for, you should do it. Breakfast in the room. 3 Michelin stars.

Carmel Valley Ranch

Definitely a splurge stay, but theyâve also been known to have deals on places like Hotel Tonight. House-style suites and really beautiful grounds to explore. I believe they have activities and such onsite that you can choose from. On site restaurant is good.

My favorite way to get under the skin of a place is to eat! I always seek out new dishes and ingredients that are local to the place I'm visiting. My ideal day in a new city involves wandering the streets of a new neighborhood to get a feel for its energy, ducking into an art gallery or museum to see something inspiring, and then stopping for an afternoon coffee and chocolate chip cookie. At night, you'll more likely find me in a cocktail bar than a club. I also love to hike, camp, and be near the ocean!
I lived for 8 years in San Francisco, and spent extended time in Lima, Peru and Mombasa, Kenya. Even though I've moved back to my hometown of Washington, DC, I still stay up to date on the SF food scene and travel back often for work!
Conversational in Spanish, and have some rusty Swahili.
