Where to stay in MALTA! From Bougie to Budget

I traveled to Malta last summer and was BLOWN AWAY!! Just a quick flight from Italy, the nightlife is amaaaazing, and it's safe for female & LGBTQ travelers. This guide covers the BEST places to stay, from ridiculously affordable to super chic and my favorite option in between. If you need a little more convincing, here's a few reasons Malta ranks so high on my list of European destinations: Gorgeous History: From ancient temples to the beautiful city of Valletta, the history evident in Malta is captivating. Blues & Greens: Despite its small size, Malta offers grandeur with crystal-clear waters and lush green hills. Liveliness: Enjoy a delicious meal with an even better view, then immerse yourself in the abundant nightlife. No matter your vibe, from a sophisticated cocktail to dancing the night away, Malta has somewhere for you to enjoy.

Guys, I'm telling you, this is THE place to stay in Malta! It's in the St. Julians area, it's affordable, and it's just a few steps from the beach, shopping, and endless restaurants. To top it all off, it has a POOL (& pool bar), MASSIVE GYM, and ROOFTOP BREAKFAST INCLUDED!

I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect hotel in Malta for my girlfriend and I, especially since we were on a tight budget, and this hotel did not disappoint one bit. I could truly write an essay about this hotel experience, THIS is bang for your buck.

This hotel is right next to the Holiday Inn Express, and has access to the same rooftop pool & bar, and state of the art gym, as well as an indoor pool and spa. This hotel is a bit more upscale (and thus has a bit larger price tag) but it is truly beautiful! If you're looking for something a bit more luxurious with incredible amenities, but not wildly out of budget, this is the place for you.

Hostels

I didn't stay in a hostel when I went to Malta, but I absolutely would! As long as you pick the right one, your hostel can facilitate some of your best trip memories. So that you don't have to go searching, I compiled what are (in my opinion) the 3 best hostel options in Malta!

Best overall:

Inħawi Hostel

Clean, modern, and how many hostels do you know that have a pool?

Best for nightlife:

Marco Polo Hostel

Beachfront and an on-site bar, doesn't get much better than that!

Best for solo travelers:

Hostel Malti

Bright and cheery with a rooftop hot tub and plenty of opportunities to meet new friends!

If you're planning your trip to Malta and want some more recommendations, feel free to reach out! And if you stay at one of these locations, or another awesome hotel/hostel in Malta, please tell me all about your experience!

Happy traveling :)

I am a college student who has been planning my family's vacations, and then my solo travels, since I was 11 years old! I'm from New York, so NYC is my specialty, but I've been all over the East and West Coasts, as well as much of Europe, and I'm looking to travel to Asia soon. Throughout my solo travels, I've learned that I prefer a balance between tourist attractions and living like a local (with a heavier emphasis on the latter). As a student, I travel on a VERY tight budget, but I've figured out how to stretch every dollar and where to compromise in order to not miss a single experience. I'm extremely passionate about traveling, and helping other people have the best travel experiences possible, so I decided to offer my skills online! I love making itineraries (whether you're flexible or on a tight schedule), building budgeting plans, finding the BEST spots to eat, and ensuring that all my fellow female solo travelers feel safe and have fun :)
