About This Guide

Seeing the Hollywood Sign is at the top of the list of places that most people want to see on a visit to Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, you cannot get incredibly close to the sign as it has a fence around it and is off limits. However, there are several places that you can see the sign from.

This guide features a variety of places that you can see the sign from. Which place is the right one for you? Will you be renting a car? How much time do you have available to see the sign? Are you planning on visiting any of the locations already? There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding where to go to see the Hollywood Sign.

If you go to any of the places I recommend, be sure to tag me on Instagram @la.dreaming.

📍Hike to the Hollywood Sign

Hiking to the Hollywood Sign is the best way to get the closest to the front and back of the sign. It is important to keep in mind that this is the most time-consuming way to see the sign. There are several hikes that you can do to get near the front and top of the sign which I will list below.

Brush Canyon Trail
@LA_Dreaming
You can start a hike to the Hollywood Sign via Brush Canyon Trail. Use address 3200 Canyon Drive Los Angeles, CA 90068. You can take an optional stop at the Bronson Caves which were used in the Adam West batman tv series. The hike is 6-7 miles long. This is one of the more gentle hikes to get to the sign but still requires a lot of uphill walking to get there. When you reach the end of the Bronson Canyon trail you will see a sign that will have the option to take you to the front of the sign or the top/back of the sign. If you want to go to the top/back of the sign you'll continue on to the Mt. Lee sign to the right. If you want to go to the front of the Hollywood sign you'll take a left when you

📍Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is one of the best places that you can visit in LA for free. From here you can get photos of the Hollywood sign from a distance.

Griffith Observatory
@LA_Dreaming
The Griffith Observatory is one of the coolest places to visit in Los Angeles. You can view the Hollywood Sign from the Observatory. Entrance to the observatory is free. Inside you'll find exhibits and displays as well as a show in the planetarium that does have a fee of $3-$7. This is a cool place to be if you want to see the Hollywood Sign at sunset. On select nights the observatory hosts Star Parties where extra telescopes are brought out for the public to enjoy. If you want to park at the observatory it will cost around $15. You can find free parking near the Greek Theatre sometimes during the week but that is not a guarantee and would require an uphill walk to get to the observatory. You can also take the DASH Observatory Bus which is 50 cents each way per person. Uber and Lyft cannot take you directly to the Observatory. They would have to drop you at the bottom of the hill near the Greek Theatre.

If you are planning a visit to Hollywood Blvd and don't care about seeing the Hollywood Sign from far away make sure to add Ovation Hollywood to your to-do list. With the observation decks it is easy to see the Hollywood Sign from here.
