Favorite Places to Visit in England: By a Student on a Budget

A collection of all my favorite places I visited in England as a student studying abroad. My budget was tight and I tried to maximize it as much as possible by prioritizing what I wanted to spend money on and looking for free activities. This list is still in progress and will be updated as new places are visited!

Stonehenge
@kitgonifas
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument that has been classified as a World Heritage Site. Though often seen as a stand alone site, it’s actually part of a larger complex of ancient sites under the care of the English Heritage organization.

I didn't get to spend a lot of time here, however, I was able to visit an event that was being held and looking at their website, they have good programs and opportunities for the public throughout the year.

Leeds Art Gallery
@kitgonifas
Took a day trip from York to Leeds with a group of friends and we ended up at the Leeds Art Gallery. We had a great time seeing the various exhibitions and seeing the gallery library.

Salisbury Cathedral

Incredible historic cathedral that is an excellent example of medieval English/Norman architecture.

Scarborough Beach
@kitgonifas
The water is cold (it's the North Sea, after all!) and you have to be aware of changes in the weather, but it's a beautiful, scenic place. The people are friendly and the town is also lovely.

Colchester Castle
@kitgonifas
Very informative and educational! I loved the surrounding gardens and had a great time looking around inside. I paid the £3 for a tour that started in the Roman vaults and went all the way up to the roof!

York Minster
@kitgonifas
Beautiful and historic. The cathedral was a great budget option solely based on the free entry for students!

I'm a photographer and travel enthusiast - even if that means just getting to explore my home town! I'm passionate about enjoying the travel that YOU want to experience, not what everyone else on the planet thinks you're supposed to enjoy about your trip. I'm also very conscious of sticking to a budget, as someone that's a student and has placed priorities on wanting to spend my money on other things! Homebase is in the American Midwest, but I'm in the UK currently, exploring and keeping an eye out for hidden gems.
